What’s the Opportunity Here?

Three weeks ago, I stood up after dinner and felt pain in my left knee – quite odd because my knee was fine when I sat down for dinner.

If you know me, you know health is a major priority for me.  My dog, Charley, and I walk several miles a day.  I do yoga and stretches and count my lucky stars that I rarely if ever experience physical discomfort.

After three days of a painful and swollen knee, I was feeling discouraged and powerless.  I didn’t know what to do.  I could only walk slowly and with pain and not very far.  Forget about yoga or even sitting cross-legged for meditation.

Fortunately, on day four, I woke up with this empowering question – What’s the opportunity here?  Immediately the answer came – It’s an opportunity to practice healing my body with the power of my mind.

So I started focusing my mind in these ways:

*I imagined a tiny, powerful vacuum suctioning up all the pain and swelling.
*As Neville teaches, I assumed the feeling of the wish fulfilled.  I felt the joy of having a happy healthy knee and fully functioning body.  I felt the bliss of easily walking, running, stretching and doing yoga again.
*I kept reminding myself that the energy that creates worlds is mine to direct.

Day by day, my knee started feeling better and, as of today, it’s 90% healed!

Let me be clear here – I know I’m not literally healing my body.  Our bodies are designed to heal and we can support that healing or prevent it depending on which way we direct our minds.

Moving through this opportunity, I realized how easy it would be to go the other direction.  I had the choice to use the power of my mind to worry and entertain worst case scenarios, thus creating even bigger health issues.

Or I could use that same power to support my body’s natural healing prowess.

Every bit of contrast contains a gift.  And that gift – even if it shows up in a scary disguise – presents us with the opportunity to move closer to our dreams and closer to Who We Really Are.

If you’re currently experiencing something unwanted, ask yourself – What’s the opportunity here?

Then accept your gift.
